Welcome
We would like to welcome your son/daughter to Taff Bargoed Angling Association (TBAA). The fishing season begins on 1st March each year and runs for 12 months.
River Season: Controlled by the National Environment Agency. Runs from the first week of March to late September.
TBAA Lakes: Open all year except Christmas Day and stocking days.
TBAA is covered by Public Liability Insurance, held at TBAA Lodge.
Fishing Rules
Catch Limits
- 6 fish per week or 3 fish per day.
- Catch-and-release permitted only with barbless hooks and if the fish is healthy and recovered.
- Do not release fish bleeding from the gills.
- When returning fish, do not place them on concrete or tarmac. Use a wet cloth or wet grass.
- Photos for the Club Facebook Page are encouraged.
Stocked Species
- Rainbow Trout
- Spartic Trout
- Brown Trout
- Blue Trout
- Tiger Trout
Brown Trout must be returned between 1st October – 1st March.
Due to higher costs, anglers are encouraged to return Tiger and Spartic trout so all members can experience catching them.
Stocking
- The lake is stocked 7 times per year.
- Dates are not posted publicly.
- Dates are announced at Club Meetings, where volunteers may be requested.
- The River Taff is not stocked; all river fish are wild.
Permitted Baits
- Artificial fly
- Worm
Not permitted: maggots, sweetcorn, PowerBait, salmon eggs, or any artificial baits.
Salmon
Salmon must not be kept if caught on any Welsh river (Natural Resources Wales rule).

Safety Rules
No Wading Policy
Wading is strictly prohibited for all members, including seniors. Members caught wading may be excluded from the Club.
Equipment may only be retrieved using a landing net from the bank.
Country Code
- Remove all rubbish, including damaged tackle.
- Keep the area clean for other anglers and the public.
- Follow Park Rules and the Country Code.
Landing Nets
- Must be used at all times.
- Nets must be dipped in the lake before fishing to reduce disease transmission.
Junior Member Requirements
- No junior member may fish during school hours. Equipment will be confiscated and returned only to a parent.
- Juniors under 13 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.
